Nigeria to constitute special panel to probe human rights abuses during 2023 elections
Nigeria’s human rights agency, the National Human Rights Commission has announced plans to constitute a special panel to investigate human rights abuses, especially by the police and other security agencies before, during and after the country’s general election in 2023.
Nigeria’s chief Human rights officer, Barrister Tony Ojukwu, speaking through the Commission’s Senior Human Rights Advisor, Hilary Ogbonna disclosed this at the commission’s maiden monthly review forum for the elections. Mr. Ojukwu said, the initiative is a part of the Commission’s MOVE project, which seeks to integrate human right into Nigeria’s 2023 general elections.
