Nine persons have been reportedly rescued from a collapsed four-storey building under construction in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
Information available indicates that eleven other persons are still trapped in the rubbles.
Rescue officials comprising FCT Fire Service and National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, have confirmed that the rescued have been rushed to the hospital.

The identity of owner’s of the collapsed is yet to be disclosed but report has it has it is owned by one of the top hotels in the territory.
According to an eyewitnesses, the building, which is a proposed hotel had an underground facility with no fewer than 20 persons trapped.
Reason for Collapse
Authorities are yet to give reason for the collapse. In the mean time, rescue officials are focused on ensuring that all those trapped in the rubbles are saved. Built agencies are experts have, however, attributed previous building collapse to reasons ranging from the use of substandard materials, engagement of quacks as supervising officers to corrupt tendencies of building approving officers.
Building Collapse Incidence
The incidence of Monday afternoon is on of the many sad tales of building collapse in Abuja and Nigeria in general. In April, the FCT Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, confirmed two persons dead and four others rescued at a collapsed wall in Wuse II . Similarly, FCTA authorities confirmed the collapse of a three-storey building under construction in Gwarimpa where 19 persons were rescued in February of 2023.
