Lagos residents polluting the environment risk the full wrath of the law as the State State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has issued a stern warning to those polluting the environment to stop forthwith.
The Director, Monitoring Compliance and Enforcement, LASEPA, Kayode Bello, in a statement on Sunday reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to environmental law enforcement in Lagos state.
Bello in the statement further said that LASEPA will go tough on “recalcitrant polluters in order to safeguard our environment.”
“Our commitment to environmental enforcement is non-negotiable. We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those who pollute our environment for self-interest are held accountable,” he said.
“We firmly believe that the robust enforcement of environmental regulations and laws is a critical step towards addressing pressing environmental issues.
“It will help serve as a deterrent to others and further protect the right of innocent residents to a more conducive and friendly environment.”
According to Bello, LASEPA’s renewed commitment to environmental sustainability was in line with the vision of the Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab.
He stated that Wahab’s vision is all about promoting a healthier environment and a better quality of life for the residents of Lagos, irrespective of their social status.
Bello spoke about LASEPA’s readiness and availability to collaborate with other government agencies, local communities and environmental stakeholders so as to enhance collective efforts in sustaining the planet.
“The agency would embark on aggressive public advocacy on the importance of environmental protection and the consequences of environmental violations,” he added.
