Reps minority caucus to push for improved investment in education, research

In a bid to fully actualize the push for local content utilization and save capital flight, the minority caucus in the House of Representatives have pledged to encourage increased investment in education and research for development.

Hon. Kingsley Chinda, the Minority Leader of the House, disclosed this while responding to questions at a Media parlay with members of the National Assembly New Media Forum on Wednesday at the National Assembly in Abuja.

According to Hon. Chinda, the minority caucus will review the internationally acceptable standards for education, health and other key sectors to ascertain Nigeria’s compliance.

The outcome of their review, he said, will determine the caucus’ push for improvement. 

He said: “We will look at internationally accepted standards for education, for health and see how we well Nigeria is complying with that. 

“What percentage of the budget is going to education. What percentage is going to health and all that. We will encourage the government to ensure that this sectors are improved.”

Hon. Chinda however warned that Nigerians are likely to get cheap knowledge when cheap education is provided. Adding that if the country fails to educate it populace then, every other development will be difficult to achieve.

He submitted that, “I also don’t believe that the quality of education can improve with the meagre budget we have for education, it is not possible.
