As the world today, through the United Nations, pushes for the mainstreaming of human rights in business, Nigeria has announced that all businesses operating within her borders must adhere to human rights standards.

Nigeria’s chief human rights officers and the executive secretary of the country’s National Human rights commission, Barrister Tony Ojukwu, made the announcement at a high-level forum on business and human rights in Abuja, on Wednesday.

Ojukwu said, the provision for the establishment of a national working group on business and human rights in Nigeria’s National Action Plan for Human Rights is to ensure Nigeria’s responsibility for the effective implementation of the action plan and it signifies the country’s commitment to collaboration and coordination among relevant stakeholders.
