The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has conducted a coordinated raid across stores and markets in Abuja seizing unregistered cosmetics worth ₦37 million.
A statement shared by the agency’s on its official Facebook Page, @NafdacNigeria on Tuesday, says the move was part of the agency’s efforts “to rid the market of counterfeit and illegally imported cosmetics products.”
According to the statement, the agency’s Investigation & Enforcement Directorate acted on credible intelligence reports.
Supermarkets and open markets in Wuse and Garki all in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, were some of the areas visited.
The agency says it will trail the sources of all the products and those involved will be made to face the law. Adding that all “confiscated items will be destroyed in line with the Agency’s laws and regulations.”
The Agency appeals to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products or activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
