Wike to begin arrest of beggars in Abuja

Beggars in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja have upon till October 27, 2024 to either desist for littering the streets of the city or relocate to other states to evade arrest.

This is as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike has announced Monday, 28 October, 2024, as the date to commence arrest of beggars on the streets of the city.

According to Mr. Wike, beggars in the city have constituted themselves into security threat. 

He disclosed this at the flag-off ceremony of the construction of the access road to the newly flag-off judges’ quarters in Katampe, on Tuesday.

Street begging and open cattle grazing are some of the issues that have defile the banning orders of previous administrations in the FCT. 

Barr. Wike, who is the immediate past governor of Rivers State, is know to be a man of his words, but this move will sure test his unwavering personality.
