Cabinet Reshuffle: Tinubu upgrades 3 junior ministers, 2 others

Three junior cabinet ministers of President Bola Tinubu have been upgraded to senior ministers while two others have been downgraded.

This upgraded are Minister of State for Health – Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa upgraded to Minister of Education; Minister of State for Police Affairs – Imaam Sulaiman -Ibrahim upgraded to Minister of Women Affairs and Minister of State for Youth Development – Ayodele Olawande upgraded to Minister for Youth Development.

Those downgraded are Minister of Sports Development – Senators John Owan Enoh downgraded to Minister of State Trade and Investment and Industry and Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment – Dr. Doris Uzoka Amite downgraded to Minister of State for Finance.

The development was contaied in a statement on restructuring of ministries and ministerial portfolios issued by the presidency on Wednesday.

 

No reason was however given for the demotion of the two ministers. According to the statement, the move was to reinvigorate the president’s administrative capacity for optimal performance. It was also a part of eight far-reaching decisions taken by the government of President Tinubu.

 

Five other ministers were discharged. Those discharged are  Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development), and Jamila Ibrahim (Youth Development).

Seven other Decisions

The eight far-reaching decisions are: 

The remaining of Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to Minister of Regional Affairs. 

Immediate winding up of Ministry of Sports Development and transfer of its functions to National Sport Commission.

The merging of Federal Ministry of Tourism and Federal Ministry of of Art and Culture to become Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy;

Reassignment of 10 ministers to new ministerial portfolios.

Discharge of 5 ministers 

Nomination of 7 new ministers for onwards transmission to Senate for confirmation

Appointment of Shehu Dikko as Chairman, National Sports Commission.

Appointment of Sunday Akin Dare as Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications Orientation working from the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
