NAFDAC leads talks on vaccine production in Africa

The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), says its has championed the discussion to boost local vaccine production in Africa.

A statement by issued by the Agency on Saturday says, its Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, met with key stakeholders in Abuja to agree on possible areas of collaboration that will fast track local vaccine manufacturing and regulation in Africa.

Some of the stakeholders engaged were Africa CDC, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and Clinton Health Access Initiative.

According to the statement, Nigeria’s pivotal role in Africa’s vaccine market, and NAFDAC’s commitment to aligning with WHO standards to enable local production within a year was among the key issues deliberated upon.

On its parts, the Africa CDC pledged continued support through training, demand assurances, and funding to bridge capacity gaps and promote sustainable growth.

All parties reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing Africa’s vaccine ecosystem, marking an essential step toward better health security and self-reliance for the continent.
