The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has riaded a counterfeiting operation centre at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex.
According to NAFDAC, operator of the centre were revalidating for resale expired alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
A statement shared by the agency on its official Facebook Page on Friday says, two persons were caught “removing expired beverage labels and replacing them with falsified date markings.”
According to the statement, the agency’s department of investigation and enforcement, which carried out the raid, seized the newly printed labels, date-marking tools, and discarded expired labels.
In addition, the entire premises was sealed, and the products were confiscated.
The store owner, identified as the main suspect, was arrested for further investigation.
The agency is appealing to consumers to exercise caution during purchases, especially this festive season, and to report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
