At the Renewable Energy Investment Forum held in Abuja today, Hon. Balarabe Abbas Lawal, Minister of the Federal Ministry of Environment, emphasized the critical importance of renewable energy in Nigeria’s fight against climate change, securing energy independence, and driving economic growth.
The Minister highlighted the government’s key achievements, including the installation of over 2,000 solar-powered streetlights and 30 boreholes across the nation, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and access to clean energy. He also announced the launch of the National Clean Cooking Policy, aimed at improving health, reducing deforestation, and empowering local communities.
Hon. Lawal reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to the Paris Agreement and outlined initiatives like the Renewable Energy Master Plan, which sets the direction for the country’s sustainable energy future. He also called on the private sector to innovate, invest, and create green jobs, essential for accelerating the transition to a greener economy.
The Minister emphasized the need for inclusive solutions, particularly for rural and underserved communities, and urged all stakeholders to unite in building a sustainable Nigeria. “Together, we can transform challenges into opportunities for future generations,” he concluded.
