The Lagos State Task Force has apprehended four suspected traffic robbers who have been targeting motorists in the state.
Adetayo Akerele, the chairman of the task force, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the suspects are Ismail Akinlade, 26; Rasak Abiodun, 25; Adefabi Gbolahan, 25; and Rilwan Olaloye, 20. They were arrested in the Mushin area following a thorough investigation that led officers to their hideout.
Akerele explained that the task force had been actively monitoring criminal activities in certain parts of the state. One of the suspects, Akinlade, reportedly revealed that they handed over stolen phones to their leader, who is still at large, to be sold.
The suspect also described how they took advantage of poorly maintained road sections to target motorists, particularly when vehicles slowed down, making them easy targets.
Following an extensive manhunt and intelligence gathering, officers traced a stolen phone to the Idi-Oro axis in Mushin, where the suspects were ultimately caught.
“These individuals are known to target distracted drivers, stealing valuables such as phones, bags, and other items while diverting the attention of the victims,” Akerele said.
The suspects have been thoroughly interrogated and will face charges in court.
