Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has once again fuelled speculation about a potential political alliance, hosting Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, to a breakfast meeting at his residence in Adamawa State.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, the two political figures are seen walking together into a dining area, seemingly enjoying a friendly and casual gathering. This latest meeting comes just months after they shared another meal at Atiku’s Abuja home in May, which also triggered rumours of a possible collaboration ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.
Atiku, who has contested for the presidency six times, most recently as the standard-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in both 2019 and 2023, has consistently expressed his intention to run for president again as long as his health permits. The 78-year-old politician would be 81 by the time of the 2027 election, a prospect that could see him pursue the presidency for a seventh time.
Obi, who was Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 elections, left the PDP in 2022 to join the Labour Party just months before the 2023 race. Despite this move, he remains a significant force in Nigerian politics, particularly among younger voters.
With both leaders now meeting again, attention is turning to whether this marks the start of a new political partnership or if it’s simply another friendly exchange between two influential figures in Nigerian politics.
