Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has announced plans to introduce CNG-powered buses to address transportation challenges following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

In a statement shared on his X handle on Friday, the Governor expressed his pleasure in meeting with the national executives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who were in Kano to commend the state’s positive relationship with the labour sector.

During the visit, the NLC commissioned 10 CNG buses procured by the NLC Kano State Branch at their office along Katsina Road. Governor Yusuf revealed that 30 out of 80 mass transit buses, previously purchased but abandoned by the former administration, will be converted to CNG to serve the public. The remaining 50 buses will be repurposed to transport students across the state.

The Governor also shared plans to establish a fully equipped CNG Service Centre to maintain the new buses, ensuring their longevity and efficiency. Additionally, he pledged to provide land for the construction of a Nigeria Labour Congress Institute in Kano, further strengthening the state’s partnership with the union.

Governor Yusuf commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for facilitating the provision of these CNG buses to all 36 states, aimed at reducing the impact of the fuel subsidy removal. He thanked the NLC for selecting Kano as the launch site for the new buses and reiterated his commitment to continued collaboration with the union to foster mutual understanding and support.
