The Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) has not yet commenced bulk sales or opened its purchase portal, as key processes are still being finalized, according to a statement from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.).
In a statement released on Friday, Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., explained that the company’s products are currently sourced from the Dangote Refinery, which has a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day (bpd). This refinery began truck-out operations in Port Harcourt earlier this week, following its recent rehabilitation.
Soneye also addressed growing concerns over the pricing of petroleum products, which have been raised by some marketers and Nigerians. The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria confirmed that no new pricing had been issued for products purchased from PHRC. The association clarified that they had purchased Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) based on the old pricing template, pending new price updates.
In response to these concerns, Soneye emphasized that the products sold by NNPC Ltd. are currently sourced from the Dangote Refinery and are subject to applicable Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) fees. He added that products from PHRC are, at this stage, exclusively for the company’s retail stores.
“We advise the public to disregard any misleading information regarding pricing. Official announcements will be made if and when price reviews occur,” Soneye stated.
The NNPC Ltd. also assured that pricing for petroleum products is periodically reviewed and adjusted to reflect operational realities, further urging Nigerians to stay informed through official channels.
