President Tinubu Pledges Commitment to Tackling Nigeria’s Challenges Through Agriculture

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s firm resolve to confront Nigeria’s complex and deep-rooted challenges, emphasizing agriculture as a key sector for diversifying the country’s economy. He made these remarks on Saturday at the 12th convocation ceremony of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in Abia State.

Represented by Dr. Deola Lordbanjou, Director of Extension at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, President Tinubu acknowledged that Nigeria faces multifaceted socio-economic and political issues, but stressed that his government is committed to finding solutions.

“The problems we face are diverse and deep-rooted, but we are determined to confront them head-on,” Tinubu said. “Agriculture remains a strategic sector for diversifying our economy, which is heavily dependent on oil. To achieve food security and economic stability, we must rely on our agricultural scientists and experts as game changers.”

As part of his administration’s push for agricultural development, President Tinubu highlighted the government’s decision to increase the number of agricultural universities across the country. This initiative, he explained, aims to equip Nigeria’s future leaders with the technical expertise necessary to drive transformation in the agricultural sector.

“Your technical skills and expertise will continue to be crucial as we work towards achieving food security,” Tinubu emphasized, urging graduates to contribute to the nation’s development. “We believe that quality education is essential in developing citizens who are equipped to address the challenges we face.”
