Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to endure current political struggles, emphasizing their importance for future leadership.
Speaking at the Etche Festival, Jonathan highlighted that no political leader becomes great without overcoming significant challenges along the way.
Jonathan reassured Fubara that the difficulties he faces are merely shaping him into a stronger political leader. He compared political struggles to the process of becoming a general, stressing that perseverance is key to success.
Jonathan also addressed the ongoing political tension between Fubara and Minister Nyesom Wike, urging peace for the state’s stability. He warned that unrest in Rivers State would negatively affect the entire Niger Delta region and Nigeria’s economy. Rivers plays a crucial role in the country’s economy, and Jonathan emphasized the need for a calm, peaceful environment to sustain progress. He advised Fubara to remain focused on his duties, assuring him that his leadership tenure would eventually pass peacefully.
In response, Governor Fubara expressed deep gratitude for Jonathan’s continued support during his most challenging political period. Fubara acknowledged Jonathan’s presence at the festival as a sign of humility and respect for the Etche people. The governor noted that when he learned of Jonathan’s visit, he immediately canceled other engagements to honor him. Fubara emphasized that Jonathan has stood by him through tough times, and he deeply appreciated the former president’s commitment to his leadership journey.
