The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to explore solutions beyond his administration and political party in addressing Nigeria’s deepening socio-economic challenges.
During a press briefing over the weekend in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Abdul-Yekinn Odunayo, the Clerk of the Senate at NANS headquarters, urged the president to seek assistance from opposition parties if his current economic policies are failing to provide answers to the nation’s crises.
Odunayo pointed out that Nigeria’s economic difficulties have worsened, and citizens, especially students, are suffering from hunger and rising poverty levels. He suggested that the president should not hesitate to consult intellectuals and economic experts from across political divides to find urgent solutions to the country’s economic woes.
“The economic situation is becoming precarious day by day, and it seems the president and his team lack the solutions to the economic challenges confronting the nation,” said Odunayo. “He should not be afraid to consult individuals outside his government and party, including members of the opposition, to find solutions.”
NANS also criticized the administration’s palliative efforts, which they claim have been insufficient in alleviating the hardships faced by students and ordinary Nigerians. The student body urged President Tinubu to broaden his consultations to include those with diverse political views in order to address the country’s economic depression.
Odunayo emphasized the need for a collective effort to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, saying, “If all hands must be on deck to move Nigeria forward, President Tinubu must find capable hands beyond party affiliation for the development and prosperity of Nigeria.”
