President Biden addressed his son’s struggles with addiction in a statement on Sunday, condemning political opponents’ attacks.

He claimed Hunter Biden was being targeted solely because of his family connection, stressing the unfairness of the prosecution. The president expressed frustration that these efforts were intended to break Hunter, who has remained sober for over five years.

Biden described these political attacks as attempts to destroy both his son and himself, highlighting the emotional toll they’ve caused. In a separate statement, Hunter Biden acknowledged his past mistakes, attributing them to his addiction, and took full responsibility. He explained that his addiction had led him to squander many opportunities but emphasized his commitment to recovery and helping others in need.

Hunter Biden credited his long-standing sobriety to the support of his family, faith, and friends, reaffirming his dedication to rebuilding his life. He vowed to never take his recovery for granted and to dedicate his life to assisting others suffering from addiction.

Meanwhile, Special Counsel David Weiss’s office did not respond to requests for comment on the ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden’s legal matters. Hunter’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, also declined to comment further.

Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, criticized the Biden administration’s handling of justice, calling the system corrupt and manipulated by political forces. He claimed that President Trump, upon returning to office, would restore fairness and ensure accountability.

Despite his son’s legal challenges, President Biden continues to deny any plans to pardon Hunter. He reaffirmed this stance in June following a conviction on federal gun charges. White House officials confirmed discussions about a possible pardon, but no decision has been made yet. Biden’s public stance remains unchanged, with no immediate plans for clemency.
