Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the development of Ogun West, unveiling significant infrastructure projects aimed at addressing long-standing neglect in the region.
Speaking at the Oronna Day celebration in Yewa South Local Government Area (LGA), Abiodun emphasized that the western part of the state, often referred to as the food basket of Ogun, had been overlooked for years.
The governor pointed out that despite the region’s vital contribution to the state’s economy, previous administrations had failed to adequately develop Ogun West. Reflecting on a conversation with a traditional ruler, Abiodun shared how the monarch expressed disappointment that past governments had only conducted groundbreaking ceremonies without delivering tangible results.
“When I assumed office, and for reasons unknown, most of my predecessors did not accord this zone the place and attention it deserved,” Governor Abiodun stated. “Kabiyesi called me and said, ‘Before you, all that happened here is that they will do some groundbreaking, but they never commissioned any project in this local government or in this zone.’ I promised him that the narrative would change, and I can proudly say we’ve kept that promise.”
Abiodun highlighted the completion of the Ilaro-Owode road, a crucial infrastructure project that connects Yewa South to Ado-Odo/Ota and five other local government areas. The road, which had previously taken travelers up to two and a half hours to navigate, has been fully reconstructed, drastically reducing travel time.
Also in attendance, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin commended the governor’s efforts in advancing the state’s development. He suggested that Oronna Day could serve as an important platform for not only cultural celebration but also for promoting economic growth and attracting foreign investment.
With the completion of key road projects and a focus on revitalizing Ogun West, Governor Abiodun’s administration continues to demonstrate its commitment to equitable development across the state.
