The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to fighting cybercrime.
The IGP commended Police operatives at Zone 7 and NPF-NCCC for arresting foreign nationals linked to extensive cybercrime operations.
The suspects were apprehended on November 3, 2024, in Jahi, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
During the investigation, various digital evidence was recovered, including laptops, smartphones, gaming consoles, routers, and critical cybercrime equipment.
The evidence gathered points to illegal activities, such as marketing scams, unauthorized data breaches, and other cybercrime operations by the syndicate.
These recovered assets underscore the growing global threat posed by cybercriminals operating across international borders, according to the authorities.
The NPF-NCCC arraigned the 113 foreign nationals, facing charges of cyber fraud, unlawful data access, money laundering, and conspiracy.
The suspects are also implicated in human trafficking and immigration offenses, discovered during the extensive investigations conducted by law enforcement.
The Nigeria Police Force will collaborate with international agencies to track cybercriminals and ensure they are prosecuted under Nigerian law.
IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the Force will leverage emerging technology to protect Nigerians in both physical and digital spaces.
The Police remain committed to effectively combating cybercrime, ensuring national security, and addressing all forms of transnational criminal activities.
