The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has strongly criticized Omowole Sowore for attacking its recent estate forfeiture.
Sowore’s remarks, aimed at undermining the EFCC’s efforts, follow the Commission’s successful recovery of 753 luxury duplexes in Abuja.
The EFCC accused Sowore of disregarding the importance of the monumental action, which marks a significant anti-corruption victory.
The Commission emphasized that the forfeiture process was entirely legal and followed the proper judicial procedure outlined by law.
EFCC officials stated that Sowore’s comments were unhelpful and detracted from the broader goal of fighting systemic corruption in Nigeria.
While Sowore expressed concerns over the process, the EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and an unwavering stance against corruption.
The Commission explained that the properties were forfeited through a civil proceeding under the Advance Fee Fraud Act.
EFCC urged Nigerians to focus on the larger issue of corruption and the vulnerabilities in the nation’s financial system.
Sowore’s criticisms were described as grossly uncharitable, given the EFCC’s significant efforts in securing the estate’s forfeiture.
Despite the controversy, the EFCC vowed to continue its work to safeguard Nigeria’s financial integrity and prevent further exploitation.
