The Director General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Lamin Rabi’u Danbappa, announced a significant refund.
Over N375,397,680 was refunded to the Kano State pilgrims who participated in the 2023 Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. This refund was allocated by Saudi Arabian authorities through the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) as compensation.
The funds were specifically provided to compensate for the power outage experienced by pilgrims at Mina during the Hajj.
A total of 6,146 pilgrims from Kano State were part of the 2023 Hajj pilgrimage, each receiving N61,080. During a management meeting at his office, Alhaji Lamin Rabi’u emphasized the importance of transparency in the disbursement process. According to the Public Relations Officer of the Board, Sulaiman A. Dederi, the process was structured to ensure accountability and fairness.
The funds would be directly transferred to the bank accounts of the pilgrims, eliminating any possibility of discrepancies. This approach was designed to prevent delays and guarantee a smooth distribution process for all beneficiaries. Alhaji Lamin further assured the public of the board’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing pilgrims’ welfare at all times.
The Director General also urged Local Government Hajj Center Officers to accelerate efforts in promoting the sale of Hajj seats. He expressed concern over the slow progress in seat sales and urged collaboration to enhance service delivery. With the 2024 Hajj season approaching, the board aims to ensure efficient operations and provide an excellent experience for prospective pilgrims.
