President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a pay rise for members of Nigeria’s armed forces, alongside the payment of three months’ salary arrears.
The announcement was made by Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, in a statement released on Friday through the ministry’s spokesperson, Henshaw Ogubike.
The move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of military personnel. In addition to the salary increase, President Tinubu has allocated funds to address the backlog of pensions and entitlements owed to retired military officers.
Matawalle confirmed that military personnel have begun receiving alerts for the salary adjustments, marking a significant morale boost. He also commended the President for his steadfast commitment to supporting both active and retired members of the military, particularly in the face of Nigeria’s security challenges.
“Despite the initial setbacks, the President remains fully dedicated to enhancing the welfare of our armed forces as they continue to tackle the nation’s security concerns,” Matawalle assured.
