The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared the expulsion of Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere from the party as null.
The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) confirmed that Ugochinyere’s expulsion, by his Ward chapter, holds no legal effect.
Ugochinyere was expelled due to allegations of gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities by the Umuopia/Umukegwu Ward chapter. According to the PDP NWC, the expulsion did not follow the due process outlined in the party’s constitution.
The disciplinary action was based on a report from the Ideato LGA chapter of the party, dated December 5. This report was signed by ThankGod Okeke, the LG party chairman, and Onyebuchi Umeh, the secretary.
The charges against Ugochinyere stemmed from his failure to appear before the ward executive committee for hearings on October 5. The NWC emphasized that Ugochinyere remains a legitimate member, with full rights and privileges, within the PDP.
Furthermore, the party cited Section 57 (7) of its constitution to affirm Ugochinyere’s ongoing membership and support. Meanwhile, the local government chairmen in Imo state have reaffirmed Ugochinyere as the leader of the party in the state.
The LG chairmen passed a vote of confidence, strengthening his position within the PDP despite the expulsion attempt. They also called for the immediate removal of the acting national chairman and national secretary of the PDP.
This push for leadership changes is seen as part of efforts to rejuvenate the opposition party in Imo.
