The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has declared there is no vacancy for northerners in 2027.
He asked northern political figures eyeing the presidency to defer their ambition until 2031. Akume made this statement during a Sunday appearance on a TVC political programme, emphasizing the need for the South to produce the next president.

He specifically urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to abandon thoughts of running in 2027. Akume stated that if God wills, Atiku could win the presidency even at the age of 90. He reiterated that the presidency should remain in the South for the 2027 election cycle.
The SGF, a former governor of Benue State, argued that President Tinubu still enjoys widespread goodwill despite recent challenges. He pointed to Tinubu’s economic decisions, including tax reforms, which have not diminished his popularity over the past 17 months. Akume expressed confidence that President Tinubu would serve a full eight years in office.
Akume defended the proposed tax reform bills, calling them essential for Nigeria’s long-term economic stability. He urged the National Assembly to pass the bills, emphasizing their potential positive impact on the country. The SGF also stated that the bills were designed to benefit Nigerians if implemented effectively.
He concluded by appealing to Nigerians to allow the bills to go through the legislative process. Akume expressed his belief that these reforms would ultimately improve the nation’s economic future and help all citizens.
