Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has ordered the arrest of Isyaku Katanga, the chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Kiyawa.
This action followed allegations from farmers accusing Katanga of unlawfully raising fees for the 2025 wheat farming programme.
Governor Namadi issued the order after inspecting input distribution centres in Kiyawa and Birninkudu local government areas unexpectedly.
Farmers claimed that the AFAN chairman added an illegal two thousand naira to the official fees required for wheat farming.
“We have received complaints of extortion from farmers, and we will not tolerate it,” Governor Namadi stated firmly.
He added that anyone found guilty must return the extorted money to the farmers without delay.
The governor instructed the police to arrest Katanga, investigate the matter, and recover the illegal fees collected from farmers.
Namadi also expressed concern over delays in input distribution by agro-dealers, hindering early preparation for dry-season wheat farming.
He urged stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of inputs to farmers, allowing them to begin preparations for the upcoming season.
