A devastating fire has ravaged a popular market in Gashua town, Yobe State, destroying shops and goods worth millions.
This fire comes less than a week after a similar incident occurred at Damaturu Bayan-Tasha market in the state.
The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed the fire and is working with the Bade Local Government Council.
SEMA is conducting a preliminary assessment to mobilize resources and provide support to small business owners in the area.
“We are deeply saddened by the fire in Gashua and extend our sympathies to the victims and their families,” SEMA stated.
The agency has urged all communities to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent further fires this harmattan season.
Senator Musa Mustapha of Yobe East expressed concern over the frequent market fires and the resulting loss of goods.
He took to Facebook to urge marketers to handle fire-prone materials carefully, especially during the dry harmattan season.
As of this report, the exact cause of the Gashua fire has not been determined, and investigations are ongoing.
