Pauline Tallen Congratulates Grace Ike as NUJ FCT Chairwoman

Former Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, warmly congratulated Comrade Grace Ike on her election as the first female chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council.

The historic event marks a significant milestone in the 43-year history of the union, with Ike becoming the first woman to hold the position.

Comrade Ike, who was recently inaugurated into the position, paid a courtesy visit to Tallen’s residence in Abuja, accompanied by the treasurer of the council, Ms. Sandra Udeike. During the visit, the newly elected chairwoman expressed her appreciation to Tallen for her longstanding support and guidance to women in leadership roles.

In her remarks, Dame Tallen presented a Christmas souvenir to Ike as a symbol of goodwill and best wishes for her tenure. Tallen expressed her confidence in Ike’s ability to lead the union effectively, urging her to prioritize the welfare of union members and enhance the union’s image. She wished Ike a successful and impactful term, noting that the journey ahead would require determination and dedication to overcoming challenges.

Earlier, Comrade Ike had briefed the former Deputy Governor of Plateau State about her vision for the NUJ FCT Council. She assured Tallen that her leadership team would work diligently to elevate the council, focusing on improving the welfare of members, promoting the image of the union, and ensuring that the council’s activities align with the aspirations of its members. Ike also appealed for continuous support and mentorship from Tallen, acknowledging her experience and guidance in her own political career.

Tallen, who has been a champion for women’s rights and empowerment, emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among journalists in the country. She also highlighted the need for the NUJ FCT to remain strong, independent, and committed to the welfare of its members, urging Ike to foster a sense of community and inclusion within the union.
