The Nigeria Police Force recently apprehended three suspected gunrunners along the Kaduna-Kano Expressway in Kaduna State.
The operation, carried out on December 9, 2024, led to the seizure of large quantities of live ammunition, including 216 rounds of 9mm ammunition and one round of AK-47 ammunition. The suspects were identified as Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi.
The police intercepted the suspects after noticing their suspicious activities, which prompted an immediate search. Upon searching their vehicle, officers found the concealed ammunition, which could have been used to fuel criminal activities. The arrested gunrunners are believed to be part of a larger network involved in trafficking firearms and ammunition across the country.
The police have expressed concern over the rising trend of gunrunning and its contribution to the proliferation of firearms in the country. The authorities are taking proactive measures to curb the illegal arms trade, which has fueled insecurity in various parts of the nation. The Nigeria Police Force has vowed to intensify its efforts to disrupt and dismantle these criminal networks.
IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has praised the police officers involved in the operation and assured Nigerians that the force will remain vigilant in securing the nation.
