President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation, effective immediately.

Ogunjimi’s appointment follows the pre-retirement leave of the outgoing Accountant General, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, in March 2025.

The transition ensures continued stability in Nigeria’s treasury management and supports the implementation of the administration’s economic reforms.

A statement from President Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed Ogunjimi’s appointment, highlighting his extensive career in financial management.

Ogunjimi has over 30 years of experience, having worked in both public and private sectors in senior positions.

He previously served as Director of Funds at the Office of the Accountant General and Director of Finance.

Ogunjimi is a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, and chartered stockbroker, with qualifications in finance and accounting.

President Tinubu expressed full confidence in Ogunjimi, stating his competence would enhance the effectiveness of Nigeria’s treasury operations.

The President also praised Dr. Madein for her dedicated service to the nation and her contributions to treasury management.

Dr. Madein will retire on March 7, 2025, after reaching the civil service’s statutory retirement age.
