The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has barred Dele Farotimi from distributing his controversial book.

Justice Peter Kekemeke granted the order after hearing an ex-parte application filed by Senior Advocate Kehinde Ogunwumiju.

The court temporarily restrained agents, publishers, and distributors from publishing, selling, or circulating both physical and digital copies of the book.

Farotimi’s book, titled Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System, has been the subject of legal disputes and controversy.

Justice Kekemeke’s ruling also directs the Nigerian Police and security agencies to seize all copies of the book.

The order remains in effect pending the hearing and determination of an interlocutory injunction motion on December 6th, 2024.

An Oyo State High Court also issued a similar order, restricting Farotimi from printing or distributing the book.

Justice Mufutau Adegbola granted the interim order after Senior Advocate Adebayo Adenipekun’s ex-parte application on December 9th, 2024.

The court adjourned the motion for an interlocutory injunction to January 7, 2025, directing Farotimi’s lawyers be notified.

This ruling comes amid growing tensions over the book’s portrayal of Nigeria’s criminal justice system and its implications.
