The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, has officially declared the Ovia North-East/Ovia South-West federal constituency seat vacant.
This decision follows the election of Dennis Idahosa, the former occupant of the seat, as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.
Idahosa, who had represented the constituency in the House of Representatives, was elected during the September 21 governorship election in Edo State. He was inaugurated into office as Deputy Governor on November 12, prompting the need for his seat to be vacated.
With the declaration, the House of Representatives now has a total of four vacant seats. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to conduct fresh bye-elections to fill these vacancies, including Idahosa’s former seat.
The move marks a significant development in the ongoing political landscape, with constituents eagerly anticipating the upcoming elections to determine their new representatives in the National Assembly.
