Wike Vows to Proceed with Demolition Despite Backlash and Allegations
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to continue demolitions in Abuja despite fierce criticism.
His actions have sparked outrage following the demolition of houses in the Life Camp area of Abuja. Wike insists the structures are illegally built on government lands, and he will not tolerate any encroachment.
A construction company, Paullosa Nigeria Limited, raised alarms about the demolition notice issued by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA). The company claims it paid N10 million for a Right of Occupancy but has not received documentation.
Social media commentator, VeryDarkMan, accused Wike of revoking land titles and giving them to another company, Saravera Nigeria Limited. Wike, however, dismissed these allegations as baseless and promised to continue enforcing government regulations. The Senate has set up a panel to investigate the demolitions while urging Wike to halt further actions.
Despite this, Wike remains resolute, stating that no amount of blackmail will stop his efforts to reclaim government land. Wike stressed that people who build on government land without approval must face the consequences, regardless of their status.
His comments came during a security event where he distributed operational vehicles to security agencies in Abuja. He further emphasized that Abuja’s development will not be hindered by illegal land dealings. Wike’s stance has sparked debates, with some supporting his actions and others calling for a more measured approach.
