The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has initiated merger talks with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for 2027 elections.
PRP National Chairman Falalu Bello announced the talks during a joint press conference with ADC Chairman Ralph Nwosu.
The talks come days after the ruling APC dismissed merger talks, claiming they wouldn’t stop President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The APC reacted to claims by Atiku Abubakar’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, about opposition unity to challenge the ruling party.
Bello confirmed that PRP has opened discussions with ADC, aiming to rescue Nigeria from the ruling party’s grip.
He expressed confidence in the merger, citing PRP’s long history of alliances, including a 1979 coalition with other parties.
Bello stated that other parties or individuals are welcome to join, emphasizing PRP’s ideological focus over financial politics.
He added that if necessary, both PRP and ADC leaders are ready to step aside for the country’s betterment.
Nwosu stressed that shared ideologies between the two parties strengthen the merger talks for a better future for Nigeria.
He highlighted the growing discontent among Nigerians, emphasizing the need for a fresh political air to revive the country.
The ongoing coalition aims to create a sustainable political vision, not just a temporary vehicle for contesting elections.
Both leaders argued that 25 years of political struggles require a lasting legacy for the nation’s future success.
Nwosu assured that the talks were initiated by the party leaders themselves, not those seeking immediate political office.
He emphasized that any future candidates must adhere to the shared principles and concerns about Nigeria’s democracy.
