In an interview with BBC Hausa, Abdullahi stated that no official discussion had been held regarding Jonathan’s presidential aspirations.
He explained that the mention of Jonathan in the interview was in response to a question from a journalist.
Abdullahi emphasized that Jonathan is eligible to contest the presidency under the Nigerian constitution, but the PDP has no plans.
The PDP spokesperson pointed out that there are other potential candidates, including governors and prominent politicians, within the party.
He also reminded the public that Jonathan’s wife, Dame Patience, recently stated that her husband would not seek re-election.
Abdullahi further clarified that the PDP leadership had not discussed any potential candidacy with Jonathan himself or his associates.
The deputy spokesman added that there is no need for the party to woo Jonathan back into the race.
