The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the recent meeting between Obasanjo, Kwankwaso, and Duke.
The gathering took place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to discuss the political future of Nigeria and 2027 elections.
Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party and ex-governor Donald Duke attended the closed-door meeting.
Details of the discussions remain undisclosed, but sources suggested it was part of a broader 2027 election strategy.
Obasanjo, a key political figure, has been critical of President Tinubu’s government and called for alternative political options.
Kwankwaso, a significant figure in Kano State politics, and Duke, from the southern region, both bring distinct perspectives.
However, APC National Publicity Director Bala Ibrahim, speaking with The Punch, dismissed the meeting as a threat to Tinubu’s political future.
Ibrahim emphasized that Tinubu’s political relevance far outweighs the influence of Obasanjo, Kwankwaso, Duke, and others.
He pointed out that these figures were already defeated in the previous election, making them no real challenge.
The APC spokesman stated that despite Obasanjo’s past attempts to rally support, those candidates still failed to win.
He recalled Obasanjo’s past support for candidates like Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi, both of whom were defeated.
Ibrahim added that no combination of opposition leaders could pose a real threat to the APC government.
The APC leader also stressed that Tinubu’s political stature in contemporary Nigerian politics surpasses that of his rivals.
Obasanjo’s involvement in the 2027 election strategy remains uncertain, but his influence in Nigerian politics is still significant.
Kwankwaso’s and Duke’s participation may signal a growing opposition alliance, but APC remains confident in its 2027 prospects.
