Security has been significantly heightened at the National Assembly as President Ahmed Tinubu prepares to present the 2025 budget to a joint session of lawmakers.

Law enforcement agencies have deployed additional personnel, ensuring a strong security presence around the complex ahead of the crucial event.

As early as 8:00 am, senators and members of the House of Representatives were seen arriving at the Green Chamber for the joint session, where the presentation will take place. The Federal Executive Council had approved an estimated expenditure of N47.96 trillion for the 2025 fiscal year on Monday, further raising the significance of the session.

To prevent any disruptions, National Assembly management has ordered the closure of all businesses and service providers, including banks and food vendors, operating around the complex. Additionally, nonessential staff members and visitors have been directed to stay home until the completion of the budget presentation.

Only staff on essential duties, with proper accreditation, have been allowed entry into the complex, along with a small group of accredited reporters. Senate President Godswill Akpabio will preside over the session, with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, by his side to oversee proceedings.

The heightened security measures aim to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted presentation of the 2025 budget.
