…A Woman of Honour and Community Journalist/Humanitarian Activist Per Excellent.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) Abuja Branch announces with deep sorrow the passing of Hajiya Rafat Salami, a devoted member, staff of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Ex-Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, and an advocate for children with special needs.
She answered the call of Allah on the sacred night of Jumaat, December 19, 2024, in Abuja.
Hajiya Rafat Salami was a woman of exceptional impact whose legacy will be remembered across many fields. She was a tireless advocate for children with autism and special needs, drawing from her personal experience as a dedicated mother to her special child, Sir Ahmed. Her efforts gave a voice to marginalized families and created greater awareness of these important issues.
Beyond her advocacy, Hajiya Rafat was a staunch supporter of voluntary blood donation and an active member of the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society of Nigeria. She also anchored a Special Jumaat Radio programme every Friday, providing spiritual guidance and inspiration to countless listeners via Human Right Radio.
The Chairman of MURIC Abuja, Ustaz Yunus Salahudeen, and the Public Relations Officer, Luqman Baba-Lola Leleye, described Hajiya Rafat as “a woman of honor, a compassionate mother, and an inspiring servant of Allah.”
The Jana’iza prayer for Hajiya Rafat Salami is scheduled to take place today, December 20, 2024, at the National Mosque, Abuja, immediately after Jumaat prayers.
MURIC Abuja extends its heartfelt condolences to her family and prays for Allah’s mercy on her soul:
“May Allah forgive her shortcomings, grant her eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus, and comfort her family during this difficult time. May He bless her children to continue her righteous endeavors as a legacy of Sadaqah Jariyah.”
The passing of Hajiya Rafat Salami is a monumental loss to the journalism community, the Islamic Ummah, and the society at large. Her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched and the noble causes she championed.
