NUJ FCT Council Mourns the Passing of Prophetess Ogonnaya Umeham

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council is in mourning following the death of its member, Prophetess Ogonnaya Regina Umeham.

She passed away on Friday after a prolonged illness, leaving a significant mark on the journalism community.

The respected journalist, Prophetess Umeham had worked with several renowned media outlets, including Daily Times Newspapers. At the time of her death, she was serving as the News Editor for Weekenders Magazine in Abuja.

Her passing comes just hours after the death of another NUJ member, Rafat Idris, intensifying the sorrow felt within the council. The NUJ expressed its profound grief in a statement released on Saturday by Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the Secretary of the FCT Council.

The statement described Prophetess Umeham as a dedicated and vibrant journalist whose work and commitment to the industry left a lasting legacy. The NUJ highlighted the double tragedy of her death and that of Rafat Idris, which deeply affected the entire union. Umeham had also served as the Secretary of the FCT Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).

Moreover, the NUJ recognized her crucial role in the NAWOJ Delegates Conference in Kano, where she served as Secretary of the Credentials Committee. The union praised her contributions to journalism and expressed that her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of working with her.

The family of Prophetess Umeham is expected to announce her burial arrangements in the near future. Meanwhile, the NUJ FCT Council continues to extend its heartfelt condolences to her family, colleagues, and friends during this difficult time.
