The Court of Appeal in Enugu has delivered a major blow to Samuel Anyanwu’s political career, effectively removing him as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The court upheld a previous High Court ruling that disqualified Anyanwu, declaring Ude Okoye as the legitimate holder of the position.
The judgment, delivered by Justice Ridwan Abdullahi, confirmed that Anyanwu’s candidacy for the PDP governorship violated the party’s constitution. This violation made his appeal to retain his position baseless and ultimately led to his ousting from the crucial role.
In response to the ruling, Edwin Woko, leader of the PDP executives in Rivers State, hailed the judgment as the end of Anyanwu’s “political gambling.” Woko emphasized that the decision would restore order and integrity within the party, calling it a victory for the PDP’s structure.
Woko also aligned himself with the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and other key leaders, urging swift action to fill the vacuum left by Anyanwu’s removal. He specifically called on members from the North Central zone to nominate a candidate of impeccable character to replace Iyorchia Ayu as National Chairman of the PDP.
The PDP executive in Rivers State is calling for unity and renewed effort to strengthen the party, particularly in light of the ongoing struggles under the APC-led federal government. Woko pointed out that the party’s national leadership had already set its agenda during a recent BoT meeting.
The PDP is now facing a critical moment, with party leaders stressing the need for immediate action. The ongoing leadership reshuffle is expected to shape the party’s future direction in a challenging political environment. Woko’s remarks reflect the urgency to restore the PDP’s status as a strong and vibrant opposition party in the country.
