Former President Muhammadu Buhari has responded to reports of the alleged revocation of land in Abuja by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari clarified that he was not the owner of the land in question.

Development Network TV had earlier reported that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) revoked several high-profile properties in Abuja, including land linked to the Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation. The reports indicated that the land was under the ownership of the former president, which sparked controversy.

Buhari’s statement sought to clear up confusion by confirming that he was not personally involved with the plot of land. According to the statement, the land was allocated in the name of the Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation, an entity established by individuals around the former president. Shehu explained that the Foundation faced difficulties in acquiring the necessary Certificate of Occupancy due to high costs, which were higher than those imposed on similar organizations.

Buhari also emphasized that he personally did not own land in Abuja. During his time in office, when cabinet members were invited to apply for plots, he declined the offer, stating that he already possessed a plot in the city and did not need more.

The former president’s response came after widespread speculation and discussions about the alleged land revocation. Buhari urged the public to verify their facts before making unfounded claims, and to refrain from dragging his name into controversy.

Buhari’s statement aimed to reassure the public that the land in question was not personally his, and that the Foundation’s issues with the land were related to administrative challenges rather than personal ownership.
