A woman, Olamide Thomas, has been arrested for allegedly threatening the lives of Seyi Tinubu and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.
The arrest follows disturbing statements she made on social media, reflecting her actions as an individual who violated legal boundaries.
Thomas appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, December 21, 2024, facing three charges filed by the Inspector-General of Police’s office. These charges accuse her of harassing and threatening both Tinubu and Egbetokun. The case was presented by a legal team from the police led by A.A. Egwu.
The charges stem from a viral video in which Thomas allegedly made threatening comments about Tinubu, Egbetokun, and Muyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer. She is accused of making statements that put the individuals in fear for their safety.
In the first charge, Thomas is said to have transmitted a video on social media threatening Tinubu, claiming he would die that year and that calamity had struck his family. This message allegedly caused Tinubu to fear for his life.
The second charge involves threats made against Egbetokun, in which Thomas reportedly claimed harm would come to him. The third charge accuses her of threatening Adejobi, stating his children would die before his eyes.
During her arraignment, Thomas pleaded not guilty to the charges. Her defense lawyer, T.J. Aondo, SAN, requested an oral bail application, which was denied by the court.
Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the case until December 30 for trial and ordered Thomas’s remand at the Suleja Correctional Centre. The judge assured the defense that any formal bail application would be promptly considered.
