The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly politicizing the recent deaths during stampedes at palliative distribution sites across Nigeria.
APC spokesperson Felix Morka condemned the PDP for using the national tragedy as a political tool to attack the ruling party. The stampedes, which occurred in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, led to the deaths of many citizens.
Morka expressed outrage over the PDP’s response to the tragic events, calling it callous and insensitive. He said that while the nation was mourning the victims, the PDP chose to exploit the situation for political gain. The APC spokesman pointed out that the deaths have united Nigerians in grief, reflecting on how the tragedies could have been avoided. Morka stressed that the stampedes highlighted the importance of better planning and organization in future distribution efforts.
In his statement, Morka reminded the PDP of the 2014 Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment disaster, which resulted in multiple deaths. He emphasized that, instead of expressing condolences, the PDP had attacked the APC-led administration, blaming it for the stampedes. According to Morka, such behavior showed the PDP’s tendency to politicize every tragedy to score political points.
He further stated that Nigerians have not forgotten the deadly NIS recruitment exercise under the previous PDP administration. The incident, which took place at the Abuja stadium, left many job seekers dead and many others injured. Morka said the PDP’s accusations reminded the public of its failed record in governance, particularly the inability to prevent such avoidable incidents in the past.
Morka also said that the APC government, under President Bola Tinubu, has been focused on fixing the problems caused by the previous administration. The APC has devoted itself to rebuilding the country, which had been left in disarray after nearly two decades of PDP rule. The statement concluded with Morka offering condolences to the victims and their families, calling for a moment of sober reflection.

As Nigerians continue to mourn, the APC’s criticism of the PDP has ignited a debate over the politicization of national tragedies. Many Nigerians are questioning whether political parties should use such moments to further their agendas or focus on genuine support for victims.
