This statement was issued by Ahmad Aliyu, the Press Secretary to the Sokoto State Governor, on Friday.
Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, revealed the government’s plan for the probe during a condolence visit.
Matawalle conveyed the President’s concern over the tragic event and reassured that justice would be served.
The bombing, which took place on Wednesday, was described as a grave mistake, according to the Minister.
Matawalle acknowledged that such incidents sometimes occur due to inaccurate information received during military operations.
The affected villages were known to be under the control of the Lakurawa bandits.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, in his response, urged the military to improve its surveillance and information gathering to prevent further mishaps.
The Defence Headquarters clarified that the deaths resulted from secondary explosions, not direct hits from the airstrike.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, explained that the explosions came from arms caches targeted by the airstrike.
He emphasized that the primary target, Lakurawa terrorists, was hit directly, but civilians were victims of the secondary blast.
The government has vowed to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.
