He praised the State House of Assembly for taking action, arguing it was necessary to curb financial misconduct and restore proper governance.
The 18 council chairmen and their deputies were suspended by the Edo State House of Assembly on December 17, 2024, for alleged insubordination and gross misconduct.
The suspension came after a petition from Governor Monday Okpebholo, accusing the officials of failing to submit financial account statements.
Oshiomhole also claimed that the suspended council chairmen had been making substantial payments to former Governor Godwin Obaseki, which he stated were detrimental to the state’s development.
He added, “There is a new Sheriff in town who is stopping all the bad practices.”
The senator expressed confidence that Governor Okpebholo’s approach would bring positive change to the state, noting that Edo people would finally experience practical governance.
He also praised Okpebholo’s first month in office, saying the governor had already made significant strides.
In contrast to Obaseki’s tenure, Oshiomhole emphasized that the state was moving away from “rhetoric and MOUs” to real, actionable governance for the people of Edo.
