The Zero Tolerance for Corruption Vanguard has accused GTBank of fraudulent practices affecting rural Nigerians and is calling for government intervention.
Richard Aro, the convener of the Zero Tolerance for Corruption Vanguard, publicly denounced Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) for allegedly engaging in fraudulent activities. In a strong statement, Aro referred to the bank as a “fraudulent organisation” and urged Nigerians to avoid using its services. His comments focused on the severe consequences of the bank’s actions, especially in rural communities where many elderly Nigerians rely on remittances for their daily survival.
According to Aro, a significant number of rural dwellers have been unable to receive remittances sent to them through GTBank. In some cases, recipients never receive any notification of the funds being transferred, further frustrating those who rely on these remittances to make ends meet. Aro emphasized that these issues have become a growing concern for many Nigerians, particularly in rural areas where access to banking services is limited.
Aro also criticized the bank’s customer service, alleging that representatives are often rude, unhelpful, and disorganized. He argued that this poor customer service further exacerbates the problem, leaving many Nigerians unable to resolve issues with their transactions or accounts.
Speaking on behalf of both urban and rural Nigerians, Aro called on the federal government to step in and investigate GTBank’s activities. He warned that if the situation is not addressed, it could pose a serious threat to the country’s financial stability and overall security.
In support of these claims, Comrade Emmanuel Oteku, a GTBank customer, shared his personal experience of a failed transfer. Oteku stated that a money transfer he initiated never reached the recipient, and despite numerous attempts to contact the bank and resolve the issue, he was met with no assistance. His frustration reflects the growing number of Nigerians facing similar problems.
The Zero Tolerance for Corruption Vanguard has called for a thorough investigation into GTBank’s operations and has demanded that the bank’s CEO, Segun Agbaje, step down. The group has also urged that Agbaje be held accountable and face prosecution if found guilty of any wrongdoing.
