The Southwest Caucus of the House of Representatives joins Afenifere, the Yoruba people both at home and abroad, the Government and people of Ogun State, and all well-meaning Nigerians in mourning the loss of an esteemed Elder Statesman, foremost advocate of democracy, and a respected leader of the Southwest, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.
The passing of Pa Adebanjo marks the loss of a towering figure whose lifelong dedication to justice, fairness, and good governance played a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of Nigeria’s democratic development. As a close ally of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and a founding member of the Action Group, his contributions to nation-building and the entrenchment of progressive governance remain unmatched.
A resolute advocate for restructuring, national unity, and true federalism, Pa Adebanjo embodied the values of integrity, courage, and an unwavering sense of patriotism. Through his leadership of Afenifere, he was a steadfast and principled champion of democratic ideals and the socio-political advancement of Nigeria.
The Southwest Caucus recognises his immense sacrifices and his immeasurable contributions to the shared aspirations of our region and the nation as a whole. As representatives of the people, we renew our commitment to preserving the ideals he so fervently championed.
We offer our prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations yet to come.
